Ice Storm

This morning we woke to a beautiful ice covered Winter wonderland.

An ice skating rink!
Branches breaking, crackling and giving way with a thunderous fall to the ground.

The crackling and breaking and giving way and thundering down went on all day.

Had to be very careful around the trees as the ice was falling as well as sliding down off the roofs.

It was an amazing sound.

Actually amazing to watch as well.

It was much harder to get around and take photos today.

Though I did manage to get out and get some.

I was dodging the bullets of the falling ice.

We had to get after some small children today playing under the trees.

No parents in sight anywhere.

If one of those pieces of ice hit them;

 OH MY!!

Thank you Lord none did!
We kept watch over them and told them not to play under the trees today.

it was much to dangerous, including for me. 

I went in for awhile as it was flying everywhere when it came down.

I moved just in time once as several huge pieces came down where I had been standing.

It was fun crunching around the front yard area;

Along with a little part of the parking lot as I did my laundry.

Had to be really careful.

There were some slick spots.

The kids sure where having fun.

Lots of people out today clearing away to get out.

Lots of shoveling going on with the crackling and breaking of ice and branches thundering down.

It was really fun getting shots of the snow and ice on the evergreen pine trees.

It showed up the best as the melt continued.

It was a beautiful day even with the gray skies.

The crystal of ice all over made for some real beauty.

The trunk covered in ice,

 is the big tree that was really was crashing down with thunderous melting pelts of ice. 

The beauty of watching nature take its course was memorizing to me.

I could have stand there all day and watched for hours.

But it was cold out!

As well as dangerous at times.
So in I would go for warmth and safety both.

Not sure you can really see it.

But under the tree is the ice and branches that have been breaking off. 

I couldn't get any closer due to safety issues from the falling ice.

Huge chunks kept falling all day long.

Under the tree was this huge ice mass.

I really tried hard to get a photo too.

This icy view was from the parking lot.

I couldn't even walk down the drive or near the road.

It was just to slippery to take the chance on the walk.

Hubby was sliding all around.

Thought .......

No!
I'm not doing any more broken limbs.

Well ..... I finally got close enough to get a better picture of the ice rink.

As you see the out reach of this tree and its ice pelts covered the whole upper level area.

Danger lurking just above me and all around with that ice falling.

Didn't want to try the ice rink today.

That will be an adventure for another time.

Finally a close up of the ice rink and what it looks like.

I actually was able to get this down by my front door.

As it started its far reaching ice coverage as the day went on.

It seemed to scatter in every direction.

Beauty that lurks with hidden dangerous.

I loved looking at this sidewalk.

But knew I wouldn't be walking on this one anytime soon.

This is the walk way that lines up against out patio.

As the day comes to another close.

The defrost of melting continues.

With another round of freezing temperatures.

We will wake with yet another Winter escape of beauty.

Will it be a day of staying in once again?

I hope not!
I'm looking for the great escape myself.

Day 9~ 

3 Surprise gifts ~ Unexpected

1.Hubby helping me with the laundry carrying it in and out so I wouldn't slip on the ice and snow.

2. Hubby vacuuming the house for me. I was totally shocked!! Thank you honey!!!

3. How quickly it warmed up and started melting all the ice and snow today. Had fun getting photos of the ice when it was safe too!
