PlayDate ~ Easter Ham Dinner

Play date with ham!
Yes! You saw right.
I know your thinking is this lady nuts?
Just a little.
You see I really am not much for cooking.
Though I do know how. Was taught at a very young age.
Have cooked for large and formal dinner crowds, just the kiddos and the family.
My family and loved ones know I would much rather go out and eat then cook any day of the week.
And have been told I am a wonderful cook.
It is not what I enjoy doing.
I'd much rather be out exploring the world that I have been blessed with.
It isn't my love language at all.
But when I get an urge I will cook and bake all day.
My dream house has no kitchen in it.
Or if it does it has a cook and someone that does all the cleaning.
I would have a waiter and someone that meets all the lovely criteria of the very wealthy life style of the rich and famous.
I have never enjoyed the domestic goddess of the house hold job which also includes cooking.
I so admire those that do. You are my silent heroes.
So when I say I had a play date in the kitchen cooking... Well it is because I love to make those around me happy and full. Making them feel as special as they truly are.
So on  special events and holidays. Easter being one of them, I cook and I cook big meals enough to last for days. Enough food that I usually have to take some to neighbors as well.
In fact the oldest daughter called today and said how she missed not being home for the big festive dinners I always make. Made me feel good. As you see I don't always think they remember those things. But they do!
So today when I was cooking well hubby had to work. I had the classic movie playing with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire, "The Easter Parade"
I was remembering when  I was a child.
The day would be filled.
Mom would get us up and we would look for our Easter baskets hidden in the house. Then there would be the egg hunt.
But hurry as we must get in our Easter best and our Easter bonnets.
Church was always a Sunday morning event. Never to be missed and surely this day was not to be missed at all. We need to arrive early so we can find seats. Easter the church service is always so full. People standing around the pews and the entry way.
Mom would always start the ham before we left for church all the trimmings to be finished up when we got home from morning service.
As I was trimming my ham this afternoon I had wonderful heart warmed memories of days gone by and the love my mom poured into our meals.
She loves to cook for us. She always states how sad it is that her daughters never learned the joy of cooking.
So as I pierced the ham with pineapple and cherries I thought about the love.
Then I saw the dripping red cherries and I thought of the love that was given this past Friday as the blood red droplets reminder to me of His shed blood for me.
He paid the price and rose again.
The love that was poured out that day.
The memories of the love my mom made for her family. The love that I made for mine.
The ultimate gift the shed blood of Gods only son.
The celebration that the Tomb couldn't hold Him. He has risen and He lives.
I marvel at the love that is shed and love that is given.
Who would have thought a ham would bring such memories or cooking a meal for my hubby on Easter Sunday would bring this joy.
As I awaited for his return home from work I wondered why so many business's where open on such a day of celebration and remembrance.

KJV
Matthew 20: 18-19

Behold, we go up to Jerusalem: and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,
And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify Him: and the third day he shall rise again.

Do you enjoy having huge meals and cooking them?

That ham does look delicious with all its trimmings! I'm like you - I can cook, but I don't really enjoy it. Again, like you, I'm full of admiration for those who do. Isn't it funny how our memories can be stirred by just doing simple every day things. I hope your family all enjoyed your lovely meal.

I love pictures of food and these look particularly yummy. Usually meals are quick but every now and then I'll sink lots of time into it and it feels very good.
